About Me

Who I Am, Where I Come From, and What I Do.

Who I Am

Hello! I am Boyang Li, a sophomore at the University of California, Berkeley double majoring in computer science and applied math. Professionally, I like to explore the intersections between technologies and other areas such as education, politics, and financial services.

When I am not grinding for projects or doing problem sets in front of my workspace, I like to go out and enjoy myself, such as jogging, working out, hiking, and road tripping. I also like to listen to music and learn to play different instruments (I played piano for 3 years before middle school and taught myself how to play harmonica and guitar). I also like to read books, write essays, and doodle when I have the time[1].

You can check out some of my petty creations from EE/CS projects to music clips in the “Categories” and “Archives” sections.

Where I Come From

I have lived in 5 different cities and 2 different countries my entire life. Since I have never lived in a city for more than 5 years (except for Changsha, but people remember barely anything in the first 5 years of their life), I do not self-identified as “from a specific place”. It is also interesting that every time someone asks me “Where are you from?”, a two-minute-long story session would occur.

Currently, if you ask me this question, I would answer it with “I come from Pittsburgh but I am originally from Shanghai”; my four years in Pittsburgh has shaped my values and made me who I am today, while my family currently resides in Shanghai – a city that I would go back to every year. Below is a quick read of my journey of moving around. It will definitely take less than 30 seconds ;)

  • 2000 - 2006: Changsha, Hunan, China
  • 2006 - 2012: Chengdu, Sichuan, China
  • 2012 - 2015: Shanghai, China
  • 2015 - 2019: Pittsburgh, PA, U.S.
  • 2019 - Present: Berkeley, CA, U.S.
